1.92 Safe to install
LiveBoot is a boot animation that displays logcat and dmesg outputs on-screen in real time. It offers a range of configuration options, including logcat level, buffer and format selection, whether to show dmesg, the number of lines that should fit on your screen, word-wrap preferences, and the ability to color-code the output. Additionally, the background can be set to transparent, allowing it to overlay the existing boot animation for a visually appealing effect during boot.
A useful feature built into LiveBoot is the ability to test your current configuration without needing to reboot. During the test mode, the lines shown may be limited and relatively static, but this is just to verify that the app is functioning correctly and to give you an idea of how the text will appear.
It's important to note that LiveBoot will only display after the data partition is mounted. If you need to enter a decryption key or pattern at boot, LiveBoot will not be visible until that step is completed.
Root Access
LiveBoot requires root access, specifically SuperSU version 2.40 or newer, or a recent Magisk. This is due to how the boot-time code is launched. Alternatively, the app may attempt to function on rooted firmwares that support "init.d," but this is not officially supported and cannot be guaranteed to work reliably.
Compatibility
The app officially supports devices with Android 5.0 and newer. However, compatibility may vary depending on your device and firmware version. While LiveBoot has been tested successfully on various devices with different firmwares, it's not guaranteed to work on all setups. Even if the test run functionality works, there's still a possibility that it may not function correctly during actual boot. Although boot failures are rare, there is a small chance of encountering a bootloop. In such cases, removing either the app's APK or "/system/su.d/0000liveboot" file through recovery should resolve the issue.
Unless you are using SuperSU in system-less mode, LiveBoot writes to the "/system" directory, so your device's firmware must allow this. Please note that there is currently no recovery-based installation option available.
Pro Version
An in-app purchase is available to upgrade to the Pro version of LiveBoot. This not only supports the developer's efforts but also unlocks additional features such as the transparency option and logcat buffer and format selection.
If you had previously purchased any paid versions of the old live logcat or live dmesg boot animations, upgrading to Pro mode will also be enabled automatically.
For those who do not wish to pay for the Pro version, there is a button provided to enable Pro mode without any charge.
Script Feature
If either "/system/su.d/0000liveboot.script" or "/su/su.d/0000liveboot.script" exists (with permissions set to 0644, not 0700 like other files in "/system/su.d/" or "/su/su.d/"), LiveBoot will execute that script instead of displaying logcat and dmesg outputs. The script's output will be shown in white (stdout) and red (stderr).
